Sake Set - Hakuji Peony Porcelain, Hand Carved by Mikihiko Yamaguchi

Sale price¥47,500

Masterpiece by a Porcelain Craftsman with Over Forty Years of Experience
Featured in major newspapers and media outlets, this set includes two sake vessels—a tokkuri and guinomi—adorned with intricate openwork carvings. These vessels, dedicated to the pureness of white porcelain, embody uncompromising attention to both appearance and form. The tokkuri's delicate mouth is designed for easy pouring.

Arita Porcelain White and Luxurious Peonies
These vessels, distinguished by their brilliant "white," are a fitting tribute to "Arita," the birthplace of porcelain. Peony flowers, intricately carved in openwork, bloom on the translucent white porcelain. Describing the beauty of women, there's a saying, "when standing, a peony; when seated, a chrysanthemum; when walking, a lily." Revered as the "King of Flowers," peonies have long symbolized elegance and have been cherished for their splendor.

A Testament to Advanced Craftsmanship
When illuminated, the peony patterns on these vessels shine and gleam. The high-level skill required to intricately carve uniform peony patterns is unique to the craftsman. Arita's clay is exceptionally hard, making it challenging to turn on the potter's wheel. Despite these difficulties, the craftsman expertly applies advanced techniques to create finely detailed openwork carvings, considering every angle to achieve optimal translucency.

Arita Porcelain: Combining Utility and Beauty
Porcelain is considered the ideal choice for sake vessels. Using the finest Arita clay, it exhibits non-absorbent properties and resists staining, making maintenance effortless. Unlike earthenware, it doesn't retain any earthy odors, allowing you to fully enjoy the aroma of your sake. These vessels are also suitable for microwave and dishwasher use.

A Grip That Feels Right at Home
To achieve the most beautiful presentation of the openwork carvings, meticulous attention has been given to the vessels' shape. The tokkuri weighs only about 300 grams, and the guinomi weighs just 95 grams. Their lightweight and comfortable grip make them a delightful choice for enhancing your daily sake enjoyment.

Utility Meets Beauty
The boldly sculpted peonies, hand-carved to reduce weight, lend personality and sophistication to the vessels. Their gentle touch and well-balanced handles ensure that they won't tire your hand, appealing to people of all ages and genders. These vessels are also safe for use in dishwashers and microwaves, combining practicality and beauty in a remarkable sake set.

An Excellent Choice for Milestone Gifts
This sake set, representing the essence of Arita ware with its 400-year tradition and history, is perfect for accompanying your evening sake. It has received acclaim as a gift for various occasions, including celebrations for your cherished ones.

on a rainy day

I am giving this as a present for my father's birthday. I was a little nervous as it was my first time shopping at a liquor store, but the staff was kind and I was able to shop online. I'm looking forward to the reaction from now on.

Good for New Year's

As I have seen in other people's reviews, I think this is a high-quality sake set that can be used for special events such as New Year's. We are very satisfied with it and would recommend it as a gift.

First salary celebration

I bought this as a present for my parents who love alcohol. I thought it would take a long time so I bought it early just in case, but they responded quickly and it arrived right away. I'm going to give it to you now so I'm really looking forward to the reaction.

for home use

There's nothing to complain about. There are probably some people in Japan who can create works of this magnitude using a potter's wheel and hand carving. It was not the store's fault at all, but I was disappointed that Yamato Transport made a mistake on the delivery time.
