Yamanaka Lacquerware - [Kihaku Glass] On the Rocks Glass

Sale price¥14,000

Gold and silver leaf drift through clear glass, and no two pieces drift the same way. A rock glass that puts something worth looking at in the hand before the first pour.

Kanazawa Gold Leaf, Suspended in Glass
Kihaku glass is made by applying kannyu, the crackle leaf-work of Yamanaka lacquerware in Ishikawa, to clear glass, scattering gold and silver leaf across the surface. Because a skilled artisan scatters the leaf by hand, no two pieces carry the same pattern — each one exists only once. The chance beauty of Kanazawa leaf is drawn out to its limit.

Four Centuries of Kaga Craft, in a Modern Form
Four hundred years of craft tradition from the Kaga region meet present-day glassmaking here. The result is a piece that sits naturally in a contemporary room while keeping the elegance of Japanese decorative work — something that lends a quiet lustre to an ordinary evening.

Uchiki, Founded 130 Years Ago
Uchiki is a long-established maker of Yamanaka lacquerware, and the originator of kihaku glass. Its work is used in high-end Japanese restaurants and has been chosen as a commemorative gift at official ceremonies, and the company has been named a Takumi — master artisan — enterprise by Japan’s trade promotion organisation.

A Perfect Gift
Presented in a paulownia box with a booklet on the artisan, ready to give as it is.
