What Kihaku Glass Is
Kihaku Glass applies kannyu (crackle), a leaf-laying technique of Yamanaka lacquerware from Ishikawa Prefecture, scattering gold leaf and silver leaf into a beautiful craft object. Because the leaf is scattered by a special method in the hands of skilled artisans, no two pieces share the same pattern — you can enjoy a pattern that exists nowhere else in the world.

Uchiki Co., Ltd. is a long-established company making traditional Yamanaka lacquerware crafts, Kihaku Glass among them. Its craft objects, combining the hand-worked kihaku technique of skilled artisans with Yamanaka lacquer, are vessels of a singular beauty, no two patterns alike. They are used in fine Japanese restaurants, have been chosen as commemorative gifts at important government ceremonies, and the name “Uchiki Kihaku” is highly regarded around the world. Uchiki has also been selected as a “Takumi” (master craftsman) company by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
