Modern Arita Porcelain Gift

Aoki-Myojo — the Blue Morning Star, by a Master of Glaze
Across the body shimmers a nebula that seems to draw you in, scattered with mottling like obsidian. Lustrous jet black, rays of blue light and a luxurious play of light and dark: Shinemon's own technique, the fruit of many years spent pursuing true Arita ware, gathered into a single cup. The myojo is Venus, which shines as the first star at dawn or after sunset.

Nitten Special Selection Award
Shinemon received the Special Selection Award at the Nitten, Japan's largest art exhibition. This piece was made to commemorate the award and is available only at JTOPIA. Aoki-Myojo was born while developing the yohen oil-spot tenmoku that captivated the warlords Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It is extremely difficult: with every firing, most pieces crack in the kiln.

Made from the finest natural pottery stone from Amakusa, Kyushu, and fired at an ultra-high 1,300°C, this Arita porcelain feels like silk yet is hard and non-absorbent, resists stains and is easy to care for. With none of the earthy smell of stoneware, it lets you fully enjoy the aroma of your drink.
