The cherry is a special flower for the Japanese, who have felt a particular beauty in it and have long admired it. Hanami, flower viewing, generally means the viewing of cherry blossom. In the language of flowers the cherry stands for “beauty of heart”. Since ancient times it has been loved so much that to say “flower” was to mean the cherry.
