Kinuta celadon, in a pale, clear blue so limpid it seems transparent. For the Japanese, pale blue has long been held the finest of colours, and among celadons, Kinuta celadon was regarded as the very best and highly prized.

A Calming Blue
Pale blue brings calm and a sense of reassurance, and is said to invite restful sleep. The colour of the tea, too, will seem all the richer.

Soranohikari — the Light of the Sky
Soranohikari is a yunomi made in pursuit of the blue sky. It is also known as Tenseiji (sky celadon): the ultimate blue celadon, pursued by the master potters of antiquity who sought the colour of uka tensei — the fresh, clear sky once the rain has passed.

A Celadon Without Compromise

About Arita Ware
Arita ware is the origin of Japanese porcelain. In 1616, under the rule of the Saga domain lord Naoshige Nabeshima, pottery stone was found in what is now Saga Prefecture and production began. Because the wares were made in Arita and shipped from the port of Imari, they are also known as Imari ware. Carried to Europe by the Dutch East India Company — the only trading partner permitted during Japan’s period of national seclusion — the porcelain was called “white gold” and furnished the courts of royalty and nobility.

What Is a Yunomi?
A yunomi is the everyday Japanese teacup — a small cup without a handle, held in both hands. It is used for green tea.
