Gold with the look of the precious metal itself brings out the overglaze colours all the more — deep crimson, pale wisteria, indigo and jade.

The Camellia in Japan
The camellia is native to Japan, and nine poems in the Man’yoshu sing of it. In the Muromachi period its treatment came under the influence of craft objects brought over from Ming China. Toyotomi Hideyoshi liked to use camellias in the tea ceremony, and thereafter the flower became important in tea. By the Edo period it was often taken as a subject in painting and craft, and it is loved still today.

Entirely Hand-Painted, One of a Kind
Every decorative plate we handle is a one-off, painted entirely by hand without transfers. It comes with a special paulownia box bearing the artist’s inscription.
